Thabo Nodada insists Cape Town City are ready for Mamelodi Sundowns battle

Having taken out big guns Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates in previous rounds, The Citizens were pitted against powerhouses Sundowns in their quarter-final clash, scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

And having done the job against the Clever Boys and The Buccaneers, Nodada feels his side are ready to take yet another heavyweight in the competition.

“It’s definitely special – some say it’s the final before the final,” the hard-working midfielder told reporters. “We played Pirates before and got the result there, and going into this one, we’re looking for the same there – hard work, determination, and looking to get into the semis.

“For us it’s just about momentum – we played Wits and we won, we played Pirates and we won, and now it’s Sundowns, another big one. I think we’re ready and will give it our best.”

Following their inception in June 2016, City managed three wins in a row against Sundowns before going down 1-0 in their Absa Premiership clash last month, yet despite that result, Nodada feels a similar performance will be enough to gain the victory on Sunday.

“The feeling is positive – if you look at the last result we played against them at Athlone, the game was ours to win, but unfortunately we didn’t get the result,” he said. “But I think we played very well, executed everything very well, and going into this one, I hope it’ll all be the same, but hopefully this time the result will be on our side.

“Our last result against them, and our recent form, has been pretty good. Despite our loss in CAF, I think we played really well there as well. So we’ve just been focusing on what we need to do.”

Kick-off at Cape Town Stadium is set for 15h00.
