Richards Bay defender Katlego Maphathe targets Orlando Pirates after Kaizer Chiefs scalp in Nedbank Cup

The Natal Rich Boys have joined the likes of FC Cape Town, University of Pretoria and TS Galaxy as lower division clubs that have beaten Amakhosi in the Ke Yona tournament's history.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys' hopes of winning a major trophy were dealt a severe blow on Sunday as the GladAfrica Championship side upset their high-profile counterparts at FNB Stadium to cause another major upset.

Richards Bay will know their next opponent in this evening's draw but Maphathe has already sent an invitation to the Mighty Buccaneers, who beat their neighbours Uthongathi FC 2-1 on Saturday.

"I grew up supporting Orlando Pirates. My dream has always been playing for Pirates. I want us to play against Pirates in the next game," Maphathe tells snl24.com/kickoff after going home with the man-of-the-match award yesterday.

"Because that will be best platform to showcase my talent and probably get attention from the club. We are very excited about our win against Kaizer Chiefs. Our coach [Simo Dladla] told us to go there and play without fear and we did that."

The 27-year-old defender was not only named the standout player after the victory over Chiefs but also took home R5 000 for the accolade.

Maphathe lived in a four-bedroom house in Botshabelo with his family before starting to build his mother a 11-bedroom house about three years ago.

"I am building a house at home," he shares. "I will take the prize money to my mother so that I can help buy some building stuff at home."
