Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi determined to contribute to the team's success

The former Bidvest Wits captain has scored three goals in his last two matches, one against Rayon Sports in the CAF Champions League and a brace in the 3-1 Absa Premiership victory over AmaZulu.

He has scored five goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Brazilians. The 28-year-old, who has tough competition for place in the starting line-up, wants to keep contributing to the team, so that they win silverware.

“It’s good that I had to start slowly and gradually build myself into the team, but mostly importantly put yourself in the team and at the same time contribute. I was coming into a team that had talented individuals and a team that is winning trophies. Up to now I am enjoying myself and I think that’s the most important thing.

“It was important for me to focus and to contribute because it’s not about me, it’s about the team. The coach [Pitso Mosimane] gave me an opportunity and gave me support time and again. My teammates were there for me through the difficult times, but I like the challenge of going through the difficult times. You are able to find yourself during the difficult times.”

‘Vila’ will be hoping to get an opportunity when Sundowns take on Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday (15h00).
