Matsatsantsa take on the Citizens at Moses Mabhida Stadium this evening in a repeat of last year’s final.
The 26-year-old Williams understands that City are still hurting from last year’s defeat and they will come out looking to get their hands on the title this time.
Williams was the hero in the shootout last year, saving spot kicks from Lyle Lakay and Judas Moseamedi as Matsatsantsa won 4-2 on penalties.
“This final is a whole new ball game and we are starting from scratch,” Williams tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“I think it will be tougher second time round as City will be more determined to beat us, you know.
“City is a very good team and they have proven that by beating [Mamelodi] Sundowns, which shows they deserve to be in the final. They shouldn’t be taken lightly at all as they will be determined to beat is.
SuperSport are looking to emulate Orlando Pirates by winning back-to-back MTN8-titles. The Buccaneers achieved this feat in 2010 and 2011.
Williams says they are well prepared and are keen to retain their title.
“We’ve prepared well and the mood in the camp is fantastic.
“There’s no real negatives and injuries regarding our squad and this bodes well for us. The players are fully focused and aware what is at stake for the club.
“But nothing is guaranteed and we cannot take it for granted. We still need to go out there and make it happen.
“We’re confident and ready to battle City – it will be an interesting affair but I’m hoping we can lift the cup again,” the national keeper concludes.
