Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the MTN8 semi-finals following a 4-3 win on penalties against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday evening.
Itumeleng Khune made a long-awaited return for Chiefs while Sifiso Hlanti, George Matlou and Ashley Du Preez secured starting berths too following their time on the sidelines.
Chiefs enjoyed an energetic and exciting start, but could've fallen behind after ten minutes from a ball in space by Argentine Junior Mendieta, who snapped at the opportunity and fired wide.
The Maroons worked another opening midway through the first half in the form of an attempted back-heel by Fawaaz Basadien, but unfortunately it didn't make the necessary connection.
Chiefs rode their luck again inside the half-hour mark and witnessed Sihle Ndluli head a delivery from a well-weighted free-kick against the top of the woodwork.
However, the Amakhosi came alive late in the half and managed to break out on the counter through a first-time pass from the middle by Matlou to Du Preez.

The Maroons made their first-half dominance count two minutes following the break when Njabulo Ngcobo gave away possession to Jayden Adams who ran clear and set-up Ndluli to tuck home.
Chiefs looked to get back on level terms immediately and levelled as Du Preez pounced on a defensive mix-up in the Stellies defence and slotted in from close-range.
The match was halted for a brief spell stopped after a small set of spectators at the packed venue entered onto the pitch after the goal.
After a quiet spell, Stellies should've regained the lead later on when Ndluli nodded a near post ball from a corner against the crossbar with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo on for Chiefs.
Chiefs though looked for a strong finish before full-time and Ngcobo could've won it in stoppage time through a low teasing shot, but Lee Langeveldt saved.
Then out of nowhere, Stellies received a penalty following a handball in the area but it was overturned after the referee consulted his assistants and extra-time followed.
Chiefs closed-in again minutes in extra-time and had a low header at the near post by Cole Alexander parried away by Langeveldt as it went to a penalty shoot-out.
Two saves in the shoot-out from Khune helped the Amakhosi to victory and a spot in the semi-finals of the MTN8.
