However, knowing the spirit in which a Soweto Derby is played, there is certainly no writing Kaizer Chiefs off, especially under new coach Gavin Hunt.
With this in mind, Davids, who is temporarily in charge in the absence of head coach Josef Zinnbauer, has assured they will not undermine Amakhosi but instead treat them with the same respect of a team that nearly won the league title last season.
"You have to look at the bigger picture, and that is Kaizer Chiefs were 20 minutes, with the same squad, from winning the league in the last game of the season," Davids told the media.
"And that is how we approach them, we treat them exactly as the same team that was competing for honours, they only lost one player – George Maluleka, and they have exactly the same squad.
"Yes, a different technical team and coach, but we know their strengths, we know how dangerous they can be, and especially with an experienced coach like Gavin Hunt, where he is going for goals.
"You know they can immediately turn the game around, so we will definitely not go into the game undermining Kaizer Chiefs, but really knowing their strengths and preparing for a normal game with the approach of, like I said, the score 0-0 and not 3-0."
