Ex-Kaizer Chiefs ace Siyabonga Nkosi assesses Teko Modise vs Reneilwe Letsholonyane MTN8 battle

The veteran duo will face off when Cape Town City take on SuperSport United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 19h00.

Letsholonyane and Modise could both be key figures in the engine room for their respective sides, boasting experience aplenty as well the ability to control proceedings on the big stage.

“I think for Teko, what he always brings is that ability to caress the ball and it’s very difficult to dispossess him,” Nkosi tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“In a game like this, he will need to use that at some stages, because it’s a game you need to approach in a cautious manner, not sitting back but you don’t want to expose yourself too much in a final.

“Teko will key because he can keep the ball and draw the opponents, and at the right time he can change the pace of the game.

“Also, even though Cape Town City have Ayanda Patosi, Modise is an asset when it comes to set-pieces, and he’s capable of scoring goals in dangerous areas.

“I think where he lacks is probably defensively, and he’s not very mobile or adventurous as often as he used to be.”

“When you talk about Yeye, he’s also able to drive the team, he’s got that type of influence where he leads the tempo of the game,” Nkosi says.

“He’s a forward-thinker, a very positive player, and you hardly see him playing passes backwards. He’s always looking around the corner for a pass, and linking up in the attack.

“With ball at feet, he’s always looking to go forward and he brings an offensive edge to SuperSport. His running power – getting himself into dangerous areas, he’s the type to arrive at the right time.

“He also offers a lot in defense, but with the support of Dean Furman and Teboho Mokoena, he is more mobile and plays with a lot of freedom.

“His weakness is perhaps that sometimes his execution doesn’t go through. He thinks and has the right intention but the pass fails, and that turn of possession could come back to bite them.”
