Ex-Ajax Cape Town striker Nathan Paulse says SuperSport United are cup kings

SuperSport are riding a wave of momentum after winning the Telkom Knockout in 2014 and back-to-back Nedbank Cup titles in 2015 and 2016.

Saturday’s MTN8 decider against Cape Town City at Moses Mabhida Stadium will be the Tshwane side's fifth final in the last three years.

Chiefs, who have not won a major tournament since 2014 when Stuart Baxter was in charge, have been known as the country’s cup kings for many years as they have won the most knockout competitions.

Paulse, however, feels United are stealing the Soweto giants' thunder of late.

Paulse, who played for SuperSport while Gavin Hunt was still coaching Matsatsantsa, feels the three-time league champions have experienced players who have big-match temperament. Coming up against City won’t be a walk in the park, though.

“They have an experienced side. They have some exciting young players. From that perspective, they have edge in terms of BMT,” says Paulse, who has recently been working as an analyst on SuperSport TV.

“But Benni [McCarthy] has done extremely well. It’s going to be a tough one.”
