Bloemfontein Celtic can join 13 cup underdogs

Baroka FC head coach Thoka Matsimela says self-motivation is what usually helps the so-called smaller teams to upset the favourites in most cup finals.

Former Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda and Matsimela successfully plotted the downfall of Orlando Pirates in the 2018 Telkom Knockout final, winning via the penalty shoot- out after it ended 2-2 draw in 120 minutes.

On Saturday, the Buccaneers have the chance to end their trophy drought when they take on Bloemfontein Celtic who are seen as the underdogs ahead of the tie.

"I understand if a team like Celtic or Baroka play Orlando Pirates in a final like we did, there's not much that you can do," Matsimela tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"That one is a motivation in itself. It's very easy as a technical team to work with the players those days leading to the game. Those are some of the things that makes the likes of Baroka and Celtic won a cup.

"You just go there and enjoy the game, the fact that most people believe Pirates have already won the match, nobody gives Celtic a chance to win the cup, but anything in football is possible. So it's all about the motivation and belief from the boys. It's what we did against Pirates when we played them in PE."
