Troughton has a long history with AmaTuks stretching back almost two decades having been at the forefront of the football project when it started back in the early 2000s.
He will return to work with Tlisane Jan Motaung, who oversaw the club for most of last season after taking over from Zipho Dlangalala.
Motaung previously played under Troughton and will continue at the club as second in charge as they seeks to improve their fortunes next term.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker was most recently at Cape Town All Stars, where his stay was brief after having come in from Pretoria Callies.
The 57-year-old has already spoken to Tukkies after his return, with negotiations progressing well as he is also interested in returning to work in a 'calm, stable and straight forward club where the coach is left to take responsibility.'
Born in Northern Ireland, Troughton, who was once a caretaker coach at Orlando Pirates in 1994, has vast coaching experience in the country, having been with Arcadia Shepherds, Durban Stars, Free State Stars, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Thanda Royal Zulu, Nathi Lions, Vasco da Gama, Uthongathi, Witbank Spurs and TS Sporting.
TUKS finished in position 12 last season and have been back in the first division for the past five years following after enjoying a four-year cruise in the PSL.
