PSL and GladAfrica Championship court battle set to kick-off

A dispute over points awarded by a SAFA arbitrator to Sekhukhune United is the cause behind the drama in the national first division, which will ultimately decide the champions and team automatically promoted to the DStv Premiership next season.

Sekhukhune were awarded three points after Polokwane City were ruled to have infringed Rule 35.2 of the NSL Handbook relating to under-23 players in the starting line-up.

However, Rise and Shine have taken the matter to high court to dispute the deduction of their three points, which were subsequently awarded to the Gauteng-based outfit by arbitrator Hilton Epstein – contradicting the earlier ruling of PSL Disciplinary Committee.

With Royal AM currently on 51 points and having already celebrated their promotion, it is unclear whether they will be reduced to a play-off spot should the court uphold Epstein's award.

"I don't know, because those who talks a lot are now quiet, they are not telling you guys of their disappointment," AM owner Shauwn Mkhize responded.

As things stand on the PSL's official website, the KwaZulu-Natal club are number one with 51 points, while Sekhukhune sit second on 50 points without the arbitrator's award taken into consideration.

Sekhukhune and the League could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, Chippa United, who ended 15th in the Premiership and will thus contest the play-offs, are waiting in anticipation to find out who they will face in the three-way mini-league.
