CT Spurs sink La Masia to move top

NB La Masia 1-2 Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town Spurs moved to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with a late 2-1 win over NB La Masia at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A penalty around the remaining 20 minutes by Ashley Cupido gave Spurs the lead, but La Masia did manage to claw themselves back through a penalty of their own which Yusuf Jappie converted.

The visiting team bagged all the points at the death when Luvuyo Phewa struck the winner and gave Shaun Bartlett's men a much-needed victory to go to the top of the log.

Spurs now go into the final game of the season with their destiny in their own hands against University of Pretoria next weekend.

Casric Stars 1-1 Venda Football Academy

Casric Stars were unable to sustain top spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and dropped to second-place after playing to a 1-1 draw against Venda Football Academy on Sunday.

The visiting team stunned the host as a low finish outside the area by Michael Babatunde rolled in the bottom-corner amidst a slight deflection.

Stars were forced to make a change just before halftime after Lerato Mofokeng fell down on the ground and needed urgent medical attention, but fortunately recovered and vacated the field.

Joseph Mthombeni's men brought matters level thereafter through a nice side-footed finish by Thabang Rakwena and eventually forced the tie to end level.

Stars will host All Stars FC in their final game and will need AmaTuks to do them a favour, otherwise they will have to settle for a play-off spot.

Platinum City Rovers 0-2 Polokwane City

Polokwane City remained in the push for promotion with a 2-0 win over Platinum City Rovers at the Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom.

It was goalless during the course of the first half, but Rise and Shine were able to come out for the second half and struck twice through Francis Baloyi and Hlayisi Chauke.

This win maintained the Rise and Shine third-place positioning on the table ahead of their final game next weekend.

Sunday's other results:

Pretoria Callies 1-0 JDR Stars

University of Pretoria 2-0 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC

Black Leopards 1-3 All Stars

Magesi FC 0-0 Uthongathi FC

Baroka FC 1-0 Hungry Lions FC
