Mhlongo enjoyed a decorated career in the PSL that spanned nearly two decades, with his most notable spells being with Sundowns and Pirates in the South African top-flight.
The 40-year-old also racked up close to 40 caps for Bafana Bafana and represented the country at two Africa Cup of Nation's tournaments and the 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup before venturing into coaching.
Having started his career in the dugout as an assistant at the Buccaneers, Mhlongo worked under Augusto Palacios, Kjell Jonevret and Milutin Sredojevic before his first head coach role in the second-tier with TS Sporting.
But now after two years since his first foray as a senior head coach, Leopards have roped him in alongside former Sundowns scout and Royal AM boss Floyd Mogale in a bid to salvage their season.
