JUST IN: Shalulile confirms departure talks were held

Peter Shalulile has spoken out on the chapter which could have led to his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns just prior to becoming the all-time PSL top scorer.

Shalulile hasn’t had it smooth at Sundown since last season and his pre-season came with discomforts as the possibility of leaving came within sight.

From late last season, there were discussions at Chloorkop involving the club’s Sporting Director Flemming Berg and head coach Miguel Cardoso over the future of the Namibian, who has a year remaining on his contract and is in need of a fresh contract.

Tunisian giants Esperance were keen, but then so far, no move has transpired and Shalulile has since returned to add the two goals that have taken him to 130 goals.

This puts him up as the all-time top scorer throughout the PSL era years with his count coming from 292 appearances at Highlands Park and Sundowns.

"For now, I won’t lie to you guys," responds Shalulile when asked about all the exit talks.

"I’m back.

"Things didn’t go well.

"We… there were discussions and negotiations about paperwork and all that.

"But I decided to call the chairman and told him that ‘rather let me come back, add my experience and fight for my position',” he says, while speaking out on reaching his personal milestone.

"I believe that I wouldn’t have done it without my teammates.

"I would also like to thank the Mamelodi Sundowns president for giving me the opportunity to come to Sundowns and everyone, the staff for the support.

"It is a great feeling, but we strive for more and more goals.

"We pray for many other goals to come.

"I believe that you cannot score goals if you don’t do extras.

"Or you cannot break records if you are not putting in the work.

"Or if you dream of something, you don’t put in the work.

"So, for me, on off days I make sure that I come and do my best so that I fix things that I know are a weakness in me that I want to make positive.

"I want to make sure that when I get an opportunity in such situations, I bang them," says Shalulile.
