When Mamelodi Sundowns return for duty on Wednesday in the Carling Knockout Cup attention will fall on Peter Shalulile as he continues to push towards breaking Siyabonga Nomvete's all-time scoring red through the PSL era years.
As it stands, Sundowns might play another 49 games this season if they reach the finals of the Carling Cup, African Football League, CAF Champions League, and the Nedbank Cup plus what remains of their assignments in the DStv Premiership.

With so much football to play this gives Shalulile (107 goals) the perfect opportunity to move towards breaking Nomvete's record of 123 goals.
While the chase remains bubbling, Shalulile's influence is piercing through a generation back home in Namibia.
"You obviously know that Peter is the most talented player Namibian but it his determination that has taken him to where he is now at the top playing for Sundowns," says Isaack Hamata who was a co-director at Tura Magic, the club where Shalulile played before moving to South Africa in 2015.
"When he left Tura Magic for Highlands Park there was always doubts about if he will make the cut because he was coming from a club as small as ours Tura Magic.
"His determination carried him through even when Highlands Park was in the first division.
"Through the ups and downs at Sundowns, Peter never dropped his head and that is a hallmark of a champion.
"In Namibia, we go to the same church and as a matter of fact he was in church last week and we travelled back on the same plane," says Hamata, who is currently in Johannesburg.

"I know there is now the talk of the record which I don't mind whether he breaks or doesn't but what he does for Sundowns and Namibian football is what matters.
"He has inspired the younger generation here in Namibia so much all the kids coming up now what to be the next Shalulile.
"I have a 13-year-old in an academy, and he wants to get to where Peter is just like all other kids.
"In terms of our expectations, Peter has already overachieved, and if he gets the all-time top scorer record that will inform the world that there is Namibia.

"Peter has grown in terms of age and maturity, but he has remained the same guy.
"There is nothing that we don't expect in terms of wonders from Peter and that sums up who he is.
"He will always score goals because he is a goal driven guy who is always positive and grateful to the Almighty.
"The assist that he made for the young boy (Siyabonga Mabena) in the other match the other night tells you about what kind of person Peter is.

"He is selfless, and his humility has remained the same just like he still respects people the same way he did before.
"Peter is a guy that walked into our club while coming from school soccer practice yet was still able to run like a mad person in the heat of Namibia.
"I mean from starting out with us as a right-back without complaining to eventually being the top striker that he is," says Hamata.
