Mngqithi on knife edge already at Sundowns?

Manqoba Mngqithi will be aiming to avoid rewinding to the sad scenes of two years when he was demoted after Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked at the semi-final stage of the MTN8.

Mngqithi found himself pushed aside from the co-coaching head coach role he held with Rulani Mokwena after the 3-0 second leg humiliation by Orlando Pirates.

From having been the man who makes the last call in matters relating to decisions, Mngqithi found himself taking the backseat as a 'senior coach' with Mokwena as the sole head coach.

Komphela was promoted to first team coach role from the senior coach position that he had held.

This order stayed like that until Mokwena left though his departure came with Komphela no longer at the club after deciding to leave.

Fast forward to two years later, Mngqithi is in charge again and in the semi-finals of the MTN8 again.

Having lost 1-0 at home, Sundowns need to overturn the deficit on Sunday at Moses Mabhida Stadium failing which the 53-year-old will feel the heat.

Some sections of the Yellow Nation have already expressed their displeasure about the midweek defeat which came after they scraped past Polokwane City in the quarterfinals.

With the huge amounts that Sundowns keep spending, the expectations are just as huge, which is why Mokwena was sacrificed for failure to win the Champions League.

The Brazilians are a club with a tendency of changing coaches when results are not forthcoming.

It was only when Pitso Mosimane arrived that there was stability with money spent coming with success which included the Champions League.

Counting from the year 2000, Sundowns have never been shy to make changes moving from Paul Dolezar to Clemens Westerhof, Neil Tovey, Dolezar again, Tovey again, Ted Dumitru, Shane MacGregor, Viktor Bondarenko, Djalma Cavalcante, Roger Feutmba.

Upon Patrice Motsepe taking over control of the club, it was Luis Oscar Fullone, Fullone was then followed by Khabo Zondo, Dolezar again, Angel Cappa, Miguel Gamondi and Tovey, Gordon Igesund, Trott Moloto, Henri Michel, Dumitru again, Hristo Stoichkov, Moloto again, Antonio Lopez, Ian Gorowa, Johan Neeskens, and Mosimane.

After Mosimane it has been Mngqithi and Mokwena.
