VV: I know the solution at Chiefs

Serbian coach Vladimir Vermezovic has disclosed that he is open to returning to Kaizer Chiefs as he understands the solutions needed at the club.

VV won the Telkom Knockout twice and provided Soweto Derby memories during his time at Chiefs between July 2009 and April 2012 when he parted ways with the club.

"Of course, why not," VV tells KickOff.com in a rare interview from Belgrade when quizzed about if he would be interested in the job again.

"I have good memories from my time at Chiefs.

"I made some mistakes just like others also made mistakes, but these are all things that happen in the world of football.

"However, with the experience that I now have about South African football, I can deal differently with some things.

"I understand the environment better now.

"To understand the mentality of people in that space is very important and that is why I had some problems in the beginning when I got there.

"The mentality was totally different, but later it became much better.

"Back then everything was new for me, but now I have a better understanding.

"For Kaizer Chiefs, it is too much to hear that they have gone almost 10 years without winning a trophy.

"Everything is about trophies at Chiefs.

"I know that because I was there.

"I know the solution for what is happening at Chiefs.

"Of course, the fans will not be happy if you don't win games and don't win trophies," says VV.

Straight after VV's departure back then, Chiefs then muscled their way into the market and brought in Tsepo Masilela, Siboniso Gaxa, Morgan Gould, Siyabonga Nkosi, Mulomowandau Mathoho and Kingston Nkhatha, which proved vital in the club then winning the league.

"I remember that when I came to Chiefs in 2009, the club was in a better situation than now. It looks bad now," he notes.

VV is back on the market after his last job at NS Mura in Slovenia, which came after jobs in Serbia, Montenegro, UAE and at Orlando Pirates, where he also won the 2014 Nedbank Cup.

"Back then, it was a project that needed time and they gave me three years.

"Unfortunately, the club couldn't buy the two or three established top players that we needed to get over the line in winning the championship.

"But then straight after I left, the club went deep into the market, bought players, and then won the championship.

"Football is a project that needs all the people to be together and back then we had Bobby (Motaung) and Ace Khuse doing an excellent job in scouting for young players.

"When you are not together, you cannot do anything, which is why management and players must be together.

"Of course, I still take interest in Chiefs because I know the quality of the people who work there.

"I know what they can do, but I don't know why Kaizer Chiefs is in this kind of position.

"In my time, the chairman (Kaizer Motaung Snr) made all the decisions in liaison with Jessica and Bobby.

"It was good to work at the club, but I don't know what has happened now," he details.
