It's Muti Monday and every Monday we get in touch with a former player where they share a memorable muti story from their playing days.
In this edition of My Muti Story, we are talking to a former Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder who prefers not to reveal his name.
Who and where?
"Muti, I used a lot of it at my former club Kaizer Chiefs. I remember we used to bathe and after that, we would be told to go straight to the bus and not dare look behind ourselves.
"Once you are inside the bus you were not allowed to speak to anyone who was sitting near you.
"This muti thing would be mostly used when we were playing against our biggest rivals Orlando Pirates.
"I remember the night we bathed in muti in the wee hours of the morning, It was around 8 p.m. on a Friday.
"We were put on top of a huge hill that had a very stinking muti on it. After the muti man was done with us, we were told not to look behind.
"Apparently immediately you looked behind you make the whole muti thing not to function very well during a match."
Why were you doing it?
"You wouldn't dare ask that question [laughs], you just followed the instructions."
Who was the muti man?
"I don't remember his name, but it was some old man from the neighboring countries here in African countries. He wanted everyone to follow his instructions to the core."
What did you have to do?
"To follow instructions and not question anything the muti man told us as players.
"Whoever questioned the muti man his name was taken off the team sheet with immediate effect."
Did everyone take part?
"Yes everyone did take part. Nobody wanted to miss the Soweto Derby, we all wanted to take part in the country's biggest football match. It's been our dream since we were kids.
"I mean, who are you to refuse to take part if white players like Neil Tovey were having no issues with muti?
"The late Marc Batchelor used to complain a lot but that didn't help him either, he would say, eish guys you know mos this is not my culture blah blah...but the guys would tell him, No man get in, we must all smell like shit here."
What stood out?
"Nothing, to be honest, those days around 1994, 1995 upwards Orlando Pirates used to beat us a lot."
