The Kaizer Chiefs head coach position has suddenly found one of the biggest names that it will ever attract being linked with the club in Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Luxemburgo is a vastly experienced coach who has led Spanish giants Real Madrid when they had Ronaldo, Zinedane Zidane, David Beckham, Roberto Carlos, and Luis Figo in their books and took charge of Brazil at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
The 71-year-old last coached famous Brazilian club Corinthians until the end of September 2023.

Such is the weight of Luxemburgo's CV that he has coached since 1983 and has held the coaching jobs at plenty of the top Brazilian clubs who include Flamengo, Palmeiras, Santos, Cruzeiro, Gremio, Fluminense, and Vasco da Gama.
Beyond club football in Brazil and calling the shots at Real Madrid, Luxemburgo has also coached Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia and Tianjin Tianhai in China.
His command of English is decent.
Luxemburgo won the 1999 Copa America while one of his most recent trophies was the Campeonato Paulista.

Pio Nogueira, who now works as an agent in Brazil, confirms that the idea of bringing Luxemburgo is being considered.
"Coach Vanderlei is weighing up his options now and the idea of Kaizer Chiefs is an option that he is open to considering.
"The project at hand is what will influence his decision to join his next club more than money issues because he has made a lot of money before.
"Having played in South Africa, I think the Chiefs project will be suitable for him because he will be able to bring back the club to where it belongs.
"Experience wise, he is second to none because he has handled superstars like Zidane and Beckham.

"I don't know what Chiefs have in mind, but I feel Vanderlei can be able to do a job for them.
"Based on what has happened in recent years, Chiefs need an experienced coach.
"As is the trend in the game, Vanderlei moves with his trusted people.
"It is about time that Chiefs gets a Brazilian coach with experience.
"It will be interesting to see what Chiefs decide when such a coach is also available," says Nogueira, who played for Chiefs and Orlando Pirates and now enjoys a healthy working relationship with Botafogo.

Chiefs had interviews with another Brazilian coach Alexandre Gallo last year.
Gallo was contacted by Chiefs late last year and had a conference call with the club authorities with regards to the job.
However, the talks haven't been fruitful with Gallo continuing with his job at Brazilian club Santos in Sao Paulo where he works as the technical manager.
Gallo (56) worked under former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira at Corinthians and then won the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A (Brazilian Championship) as assistant to Luxemburgo at Santos.
Chiefs are expected to make a coaching change for the fifth consecutive off-season with Cavon Johnson only standing in as caretaker coach.

Since their last trophy triumph in May 2015, Chiefs have had Steve Komphela, Giovanni Solinas, Ernst Middendorp, Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, Arthur Zwane, Molefi Ntseki, and Johnson all calling the shots with no success in delivering silverware.
Hunt, Baxter, Zwane, and Ntseki were appointed ahead of new seasons in the last four years.
