With only a third of the season left and no silverware to play for, Kaizer Chiefs have been left to ponder the value and structure of their squad.
Chiefs have gone into the international break in silence after Orlando Pirates completed a rare double, leaving them huffing and puffing in mid-table, 17 points behind champions elect Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played two games less.

What was an encouraging start for caretaker coach Cavin Johnson has turned sour with Chiefs winning just once in the last six games.
This has raised questions about a variety of issues at Naturena, but top of the list will be the contributions made by each player with a contract at the club.

Goalkeeping:
The only matter of interest will be around what happens with Itumeleng Khune at the end of the season after Chiefs announced that this is his last playing contract at the club.
Khune has played five games this season and conceded in all.
In the meanwhile, Bruce Bvuma has made sure no mention of Khune is made since taking over, keeping seven clean sheets in nine games.
Brandon Petersen has provided solid cover after having played 11 games earlier in the season.
Both Bvuma and Petersen have new deals, so they will remain the backbone of the goalkeeping department for at least another three years.
Karabo Molefe is knocking hard for minutes.

Defence:
Until his injury in November, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe had put in a decent shift at the back, justifying his recruitment from SuperSport United at the beginning of the season.
The Motswana defender had another off-season signing Given Msimango as his regular partner in central defence.
Msimango has maintained his place and been forever present in the matchday squad.
For Njabulo Ngcobo, whose contract is up in June, what will be of concern is that he hasn't pinned down a regular place this season and has only played six games from start to finish.
Another man with reason to worry at the back is Edmilson Dove, who has red lights flashing in front of his face.
While he provides two positions at the back, he hasn't been convincing.
Reeve Frosler is still the best option at right-back as proven by his game-time count with Zitha Kwinika good competition, while Sifiso Hlanti is still pushing himself to good effect on the left at 34, with Happy Mashiane as cover.
For all his pace on the wing, Dillan Solomons has little to nothing to show for his time at Chiefs this season.
New signing Luke Fleurs is still yet to play, while Aiden McCarthy is still waiting to feature.

Midfield:
The goals haven't flowed like they did early season, but Edson Castillo has long proven his worth as the best recruit by Chiefs this season.
Yusuf Maart has ticked the necessary boxes in central midfield and has been rewarded with the armband.
The only other players that have made considerable contributions in midfield are Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Pule Mmodi and Mduduzi Shabalala.
Ngcobo has had question marks about his weight, Mmodi needs to be consistent instead of disappearing during matches, while it can still be argued that Shabalala is still growing.
Sibongiseni Mthethwa hasn't done anything special at Chiefs, just like Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tebogo Potsane.
After battling with injuries, Keagan Dolly has yet to light up the scene with his mega contract set to be reviewed in June.
The end is in sight for Siyethemba Sithebe, while Lehlogonolo Matlou cannot be proud with what he has done.
At 24, Sabelo Radebe cannot be comfortable in having played just 12 minutes this season.

Forwards:
Colombian striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez has failed and is still without a goal with a third of the season left.
Ranga Chivaviro has struggled and two goals in 15 games is not what is expected from a number nine, least of all a foreign one.
Then with Congolese forward Christian Saile Basomboli, his rate of a goal in every eight matches is not good enough.
Saile has scored thrice in 24 appearances.
