The year 2023 will go down as the worst for Kaizer Chiefs through the PSL history regardless of what then happens in the three games that they must still play.
Chiefs still have matches against Polokwane City (December 9), Richards Bay (December 23), and Sekhukhune United (December 30) before the year end.

While the issue of the silverware barren spell has been well documented with the bell due to ring nine years in May, Chiefs have turned this calendar year into their worst since domestic football came under the NSL banner in 1985.
Their Nedbank Cup campaign ended in despair in May after they were knocked out by bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals with their Soweto giants going on to lift the trophy.
In league, it was a fifth-place finish, 26 points behind winners Mamelodi Sundowns.
Then into the new season, they failed in both the MTN8 and Carling KnockOut Cup and already sit 13 points adrift of Sundowns in the league with the champions having played three games less.
Based on their form, Chiefs are already out of contention for the league title before the season reaches the halfway mark.
Amakhosi have this year lost 17 games across all competitions, the worst run of losses ever for the club in a calendar year.
The severity of those losses in demonstrated in that the most recent of those defeats was in the Soweto derby.
Just this year Chiefs have lost thrice to Sundowns while they have twice ended on the losing end against Pirates, Golden Arrows, AmaZulu, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, and Sekhukhune United.
There were also defeats to TS Galaxy and Moroka Swallows.
This means nine cubs in the league have enjoyed wins against Chiefs.
Prior to this year, Chiefs had never lost as many as 17 games in one calendar year.
At their worst it was 14 games defeats in 1985 and 1993.

The disappointing results have also meant the wheels of change going into motion on the bench with three coaches having been on the bench already.
Arthur Zwane was in charge at the turn of the New Year and since then there has been Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson who is the interim coach.

Chiefs are set to appoint a new coach during the AFCON break.
Brazilian coach Alexandre Gallo has been interviewed and whatever decision the club decides whoever takes over will have six weeks from the end of December through to mid-February when they play TS Galaxy.
