New Bucs DDC coach starts with a thrilling draw

Orlando Pirates 3-3 Durban City

Orlando Pirates claimed a last-gasp equaliser to force a 3-3 draw with Durban City in their DStv Diski Challenge opener on Saturday.

Pirates unleashed the first blow when Samkelo Zikalala made full use of a poor clearance and tucked over the goal-line, but it lasted a minute as Lindokuhle Chonco levelled.

Chonco stole the show again when he made a run from his own half and eliminated a few challengers to comfortably pick out the net.

Pirates were stretchered once more on the stroke of halftime as Chonco netted from the penalty spot to complete a first half hat-trick.

The Soweto giants put up a late fight back with a spot-kick of their own courtesy of Moses Mphekgoane, as City had Mohlala given a red card for a foul.

Pirates salvaged a draw in the dying minutes through a close-range finish from Cristian Derbyshire and denied Daine Klate a winning start as coach of City.

Golden Arrows 1-3 Richards Bay FC

Richards Bay FC made a winning start to the season after overcoming ten men Golden Arrows 3-1 out at the Mpumalanga Stadium in the KwaZulu-Natal derby.

A fast-pace double from Wandile Ngema and another finish from Mbulelo Nombengula set the Natal Rich Boys well on their way.

More drama unfolded with Richards Bay given a penalty but Ntlonelo Bomelo missed it, while Abafana Besthende had Nhlanhla Gasa dismissed for a second bookable offence.

The home team fought back minutes in the second half courtesy of Siyabonga Khumalo, but staged no comeback and got off to a losing start.

Magesi FC 1-1 Sekhukhune United

Sekhukhune United began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against rivals Sekhukhune United at the Seshego Stadium in the Limpopo derby.

Babina Noko were quick out of the blocks as Tsholofelo Bokaba pounced in the opening ten minutes, but Dikwena rallied back through Phefo and shared the spoils.

TS Galaxy 2-3 Marumo Gallants FC

Marumo Gallants FC enjoyed a winning start to the season following a thrilling 3-2 victory over TS Galaxy at the Solomo Mahlangu Stadium.

Galaxy showed a bit of fight and threatened to salvage something with goals by Makhama Rantoa and Thiago Walters, but Marumo proved too strong in the end.
