Champions Chiefs run riot in final Diski clash

AmaZulu 0-5 Kaizer Chiefs

Newly-crowned champions Kaizer Chiefs finished the DStv Diski Challenge season in style after thrashing AmaZulu 5-0 on the final day on Sunday.

Usuthu were cut apart in the sixth minute when Manqoba Ozoemena found time and space to apply a well-taken finish around the six-yard box.

Ozoemena wreaked more misery on the host midway in the first stanza and completed his brace after capitalising from a goalkeeping howler.

Chiefs strengthened their grip on the counter in the second half as Ozoemena drew a foul in the area to win a penalty, which Naledi Hlongwane dispatched with ease.

Ozoemena proved telling yet again and got in-behind the defence to set-up Siphesihle Tati for a simple finish to the back of an unguarded net.

Chiefs weren’t done though as Hlongwane made it five in the final minutes with a perfectly executed glancing header from the six-yard box, as the clash concluded.

Golden Arrows 1-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns secured third spot on the table following a tough 1-1 stalemate against Golden Arrows.

After a goalless first period, Masandawana hit the ground running a minute in the second stages courtesy of Onele Rulwana.

However, Abafana Besthende bounced back swiftly and ended up salvaging a point which see them finish the season in ninth-place.

TS Galaxy 0-1 Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC completed the league double over TS Galaxy with a 1-0 win and confirmed their second-place finish.

Bernard Parker’s men attempted a fast start and got a couple of chances to trouble last season’s champions, but in the end lacked decisiveness.

The Maroons weathered the heavy storm thrown their way and seized the winner late in the second half courtesy of second half substitute Ethan Felix.

Richards Bay FC 0-1 SuperSport United

SuperSport United ended the season on a positive note to finish fourth on the table following a 1-0 victory over Richards Bay FC.

Matsatsantsa hit the front-foot in the opening-quarter through Shamir Mattera, which was enough to secure the win on the day.

Magesi FC 1-1 Polokwane City

Magesi FC concluded their debut campaign in the reverse league with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Polokwane City.

Dikwena Tsa Meetse were a goal to the good late in the first period as Duncan Tabana raced clear, but Rise and Shine issued a fast response and ultimately wrestled a draw.

Chippa United 0-1 Sekhukhune United

Bottom-placed Chippa United finished the season in disappointing fashion following a 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United.

It’s a return to winning ways for Babina Noko who needed a last-minute finish from Kgothatso Thulare to get over the line and ended their campaign in ninth spot.
