Amakhosi are 180 minutes away from achieving club history by reaching the continental group stages for the first time ever, with Zesco the only obstacle in their way.
Having already departed for Ndola, where the Zambian Premier League champions await Sunday’s meeting at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Chiefs have been warned – by a former teammate of club chairman Kaizer Motaung at Atlanta Chiefs – not to take Los Zegalacticos lightly.
“Zesco United are a very tough opponent. They are physically strong and like to move the ball around at speed,” advised Mwila, who was a midfielder in his day, on The Glamour Boys’ website.
“They are far from pushovers. The players should take their six-studs [boots] with them, because if it rains in Ndola it really pours.”
The 72-year-old former Zambia national team coach also shared some memories of his time on the playing field with ‘Chincha Guluva’ during their spells in America.
“Kaizer [Motaung] was a fantastic player, who was not only technically gifted, but he also scored a lot of goals. I gave him all the goals he scored – I provided the assists,” he joked.
The match is scheduled for Sunday at 15h00, before the Soweto side host the return leg six days later at FNB Stadium, where kick-off has been set for 20h00.
