CAF Confederation Cup match report Bidvest Wits v Young Buffaloes 27 September 2019

Bidvest Wits overturned first-leg defeat against Young Buffaloes in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 3-0 second-leg triumph on Friday evening.

Gavin Hunt shuffled the pack and re-called Gift Motupa, Carl Lark, Ricardo Goss, Siyanda Zwane, Keegan Ritchie and Elias Pelembe amongst others from the thrilling 4-3 win over Orlando Pirates.

Wits levelled the aggregate score at the midway stage of the first half through Motupa, who fired home.

The latter doubled his tally five minutes thereafter to give the Clever Boys the lead in the overall contest with another cool execution.

Wits went to the interval in cruise control, with no threat coming at all from the travelling outfit who hails across the border. The hosts made a pretty slow start to the second stanza, as the visitors huffed and puffed to a come back in the overall encounter.

The Clever Boys were brought down to ten man in the 62nd minute as Ritchie saw red for a second bookable offence. Hunt made his first substitution of the evening three minutes later in Sifiso Hlanti, who came on for Mozambican –born Pelembe.

Wits made another key offensive change in the 77th minute as Motupa made way for Terrence Dzvukamanja. The Zimbabwean grabbed the evening's third goal six minutes later with a well-taken finish.

That was to be that for the Braamfontein-based outfit, who march into the next round after overcoming a first-leg defeat
