Milutin Sredojevic claims Steven Gerrard wanted Mostafa Mohamed for Rangers

Milutin Sredojevic has revealed Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard enquired about the services of one of his former strikers for Glasgow Rangers.

The Zambia head coach has endured a difficult start to life in his new role with the disruption of the global coronavirus pandemic - after a tumultuous 2019/20 season on a personal level.

Having started the season with Orlando Pirates, the Serbian went on to lift the Egyptian Cup during his short stint at Zamalek before leaving the club via mutual consent.

And speaking to Ontime Sports, the Chipolopolo boss has revealed that Gerrard was seeking the services one of Africa's most sought-after talents at the White Knights.

"Rangers manager, Steven Gerard, wanted Mostafa Mohamed," Micho confirmed, with reports in Egypt claiming the Zamalek set a R112 million asking-price.

"But Mostafa has to stay at Zamalek because it isn't an institution built on marketing and selling players, he has to give his best to the club."

The 22-year-old led Egypt as top scorer in their 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations triumph and directly contributed to five goals towards Zamalek's run to the CAF Champions League last-four.
