Sundowns became the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals this season after beating TP Mazembe 1-0 at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday.
The Brazilians remain unbeaten in Africa this season having secured six wins and scoring a whopping 15 goals in the continental tournament, including two historic victories over Mazembe both home and away.
Mngqithi hashowever warned his charges not to get carried away by their current form, which has also resulted in them dominating on the domestic front.
"To be honest, for Sundowns to qualify for the quarter-finals is what is expected," said Mngqithi after Tuesday's win over Mazembe.
"You can't be saying we have done something big by qualifying for the quarter-finals because that's what we have been doing all these years.
"So far one is encouraged, I must say, but it's a very long road. We know there is a lot to be done. We can't be carried away. Humility becomes very important that our players keep their feet on the ground and respect the game because the game can always show you flames.
"So we understand what is expected from us and we will always strive to give our best shot."
Sundowns return to domestic football on Sunday when they host Black Leopards in the DStv Premiership.
