Kaizer Chiefs remain third in Group C after playing to a goalless draw with Petro de Luanda in CAF Champions League action on Tuesday evening. Chiefs handed Ramahlwe Mphahlele the captaincy on his return from suspension and named Samir Nurkovic on the bench in favour of Lazarous Kambole. Lebogang Manyama, who got the Amakhosi out of jail in their last match against Maritzburg United, came close to the opener with a snap effort on 11 minutes but Luanda smothered the attempt. An emphatic defensive clearance from the host followed a few minutes later, as Dominique hurried back to deny the Amakhosi the lead from a perfectly taken set-piece. Petro began to apply pressure of their own closer to the final stage of the first half, but found goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi equal to every threat thrown his side's way. It was Chiefs that finished the half the strongest with chances falling the way of Manyama and Philani Zulu, but neither managed to capitalise. The danger reverted back to the Glamour Boys though soon following the restart, with Akpeyi called to produce a flying save from a clever attempt by the Angolan side. Chiefs came inches close to breaking the deadlock midway in the second half when Manyama flashed the upright through a free-kick from a promising position. A substitution furthermore followed for the Amakhosi seconds later, with Happy Mashiane removed in the place of Nurkovic as the visitors went in search of a goal. The Amakhosi attempted a late surge through a speculative effort from Bernard Parker, but the veteran went wide as it finished goalless, which sees Chiefs sit in third spot, level on points with Horoya.
