A new-look Bafana Bafana team that is led by assistant coach Helman Mkhalele will kick off their COSAFA CUP campaign against Mozambique at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday.
Namibia and Zambia have already booked their places in the semi-final.
The winners between South Africa and Mozambique will face Namibia on Friday.
"Like every South African, I wish Bafana Bafana win today, though there are a lot of complaints about the squad," Sangweni tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"We should have at least included three, four players that are regularly in the Bafana Bafana team,
"I don't want to touch much in the Under-23 players being selected because I don't remember us having an Under-23 squad in South Africa at the moment.
"Let's just hope the players selected will take this tournament serious because we all started in Cosafa.
"So all our hopes are on them to win against Mozambique, though I must admit it will not be easy.
"I had a chat with Tico Tico (Bucuane) recently, he told me their squad is also dominated by local players that are playing at the highest level in Mozambique, while our squad is full of untested players at the international level.
"But because each time youngsters are given a chance in South Africa they do well, let's hope even this group of players will do the same today.
"A win will be very important to us, as hosts we can't lose our first match."
Mozambique's best run in the competition came in 2008 and 2015 where they finished as runners-up on both occasions.
Following the 2021 triumph, Bafana will be looking to add their sixth COSAFA trophy to their trophy cabinet.
