Decorated tactician Pitso Mosimane has become the first South African to be awarded the prestigious CAF/FIFA Pro licence.
At a press conference held at SAFA House in Nasrec, Mosimane was joined by SAFA and CAF executives that including SAFA president Danny Jordaan.
Mosimane was chosen among the first group of African coaches to participate in the course in 2019. After disruptions due to covid, the three-time CAF Champions League Champions has been awarded his certificate.
The Pro licence is a first of its kind and is the equivalent of the UEFA Pro licence - which effectively qualifies Mosimane to coach anywhere in the world.
"He [Pitso] stands as the first South African to be counted among such coaches. He is now graduated, certificated and recognised throughout the world while he has been coaching outside the country and winning major medals with clubs outside South Africa," SAFA president Danny Jordaan said.
"This is just to confirm that his contribution, his coaching ability is recognised. not just only on the continent but through Africa."
The 58-year-old recently parted ways with Al Ahly and acknowledged that the licence opened further doors to more opportunities.
SAFA confirmed that they would team up with Pitso to develop football in South Africa at a grassroots level.
"We talked about school sport and of course, we agreed that one of the things we must do is strengthen school sport to eventually transform Bafana Bafana into a very competitive team and be one of the best among the continent," Jordaan added.
Pitso listed several challenges that cripple the development of grassroots football in schools such as lack of infrastructure, particularly in underprivileged schools. The former Bafana Bafana coach is hoping to canvass even more support from the government in order to improve these conditions.
