Mlungisi 'Professor' Ngubane has applauded the South African Football Association (SAFA) for finally doing the right thing.

Ngubane says the association should be commended for the method they used to select the squad that participated in the Cosafa Cup tournament, even though they could have done better.

Bafana are the Cosafa Plate champions following their 2-1 win over Botswana.

"They did well this time around in terms of selection," Ngubane tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"It's much better because they were using boys who never played at this level before. That's the positive.

"I think this is the platform [Cosafa Cup] they should be used for every player instead of selecting their friends.

"I hear people talking about the likes of Kermit Erasmus being not there... But he can't even play for [Mamelodi] Sundowns. He's old.

"So SAFA was right to select players who are around the age of 21.

"The goalkeeper that was in goals, is he, not a Cape Town Spurs goalkeeper? I've watched him play, he's a good goalkeeper that boy.

"Some of the boys we watch them in the first division, maybe most people don't watch the first division.

"The only negative was not to include players from the likes of Golden Arrows, Marumo Gallants, and Stellenbosch the winners of the Diski Challenge.

"Yes, it was not a fair selection, if you select Radiopane from a Pirates team that finished fourth, where are these boys from Stellenbosch?

"They should have selected more players from the DDC.

"Don't get me wrong, I cannot blame them for selecting whomever they selected, but I'm talking about the way forward.

"All I'm saying is, to support the Diski Challenge development, going forward they must select those players.

"Stellenbosch wouldn't have won the DDC if they didn't have good players.

"What I liked about the selection is that they didn't bring old players, which is good. They brought in young players.

"But it was going to be better if they selected more players from the DDC."
