Former Bafana keeper: Richard Ofori must be devastated

Bafana Bafana 2010 World Cup squad third-choice keeper Shuaib Walters says seeing Richard Ofori missing out on the trip to Qatar has reminded him of his situation.

The Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was not included in the Ghana national team's World Cup squad.

His exclusion sees the number of players from the Premier Soccer League in this year's FIFA World Cup to zero.

"I know he was earmarked, I'm sure he played a few games again for Ghana this year," Walters tells KickOff.

"And there was obviously always going to be four, five goalkeepers up for selection.

"I'm sure he is extremely devastated; I had a similar feeling in 2010 when I was left out of the squad going to camp in Brazil.

"At that time, it was Itumeleng Khune, Moeneeb Josephs and Emilie Baron.

"Those were the three goalkeepers that were in the preliminary squad that went to Brazil.

"That was two months before the 2010 World Cup. They went to Brazil for a month, and to Germany for a month.

"During the Brazil camp Emille got injured and I got the call-up.

"So, I know the feeling because I was hoping to be part of that squad when it was announced in February.

"So, I'm sure Ofori he still going to support his country because that's very important. My sympathy goes to him, out of five goalkeepers the Ghanaian coach had to choose three."
