Broos defends value of France game

Les Bleus made light work of the visitors on the night in Lille as they sharpened up for the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar from November 21-December 18.

For Bafana, they have the AFCON group stages qualifiers to deal with starting in June as they seek to secure a ticket to next year's finals in Ivory Coast after missing the previous edition in Cameroon which was held this year.

"It was important for the experience and to learn from them (France)," says Broos.

"We knew that it will be very difficult and therefore I said the result will not be important.

"I saw new players in the team and that was also important for me for the qualifiers in June. I saw also a team until the end which was very important too.

"The boys tried and the new ones I'm happy for them. There is more quality now than six, seven months ago, and we are ready for June," says Broos whose team was torn apart by the quality of France.

"We tried to play football but there was a big difference in the level. We didn't kick the ball into the stands.

"There were some players who played a good game and for me even when it is 5-0 it is still positive.

"We knew before the game that there was a difference in levels between the two teams but for us, the result was not important.

"It was the experience because we are a young team. We don't have the experience that the French players have. We don't have the quality that the French have. These are the world champions.

"We fought for it and did what we had to do but when there is such a difference in quality it can happen that you lose the game with this result. It is not a shame for us even when it is 5-0 and we know why.

"And again, the experience that we got today to play against such a team is more valuable than the defeat," says Broos.
