Bafana prospect presents headache for Hugo Broos

Bafana Bafana prospect Kobamelo Kodisang capped off a Man of the Match award winning performance with a goal as Moreirense opened the gap at the top of Liga Portugal 2.

Kodisang, who is spending the season on loan from Bragga, took his total goal tally up to eight this this season as Moreirense recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Trofense on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has been one of the club's the key players' in the push for promotion this season. The attacker's electric form and a bid for a place in the Bafana squad hit a sumble late last year when he sustained a knee injury that has kept him sidelined two months.

Kodisang returned to action at the start of the February, featuring 25 minutes against Académico de Viseu. He only got his first full 90 minutes during a 2-2 draw against UD Oliveirense at the end of February.

For Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, Kodisang's form presents yet another option up front. The Belgian coach had said in last year that the national team was tracking the attacker's progress with the view to call him up for Bafana Bafana's upcoming 2023 Afcon qualifier against Liberia.

"Kodisang played for the Olympic [U-23] team [in 2020] and after that he was at Braga in the third division in Portugal, and he didn't play," Broos said in November.

"Now suddenly he's good? okay, let him go on being good and then we'll have a very good player in March.

"I don't want to take Kodisang to replace another player now because the players who were in the camp in September satisfied me. You see it in the selection but again we'll keep an eye on Kodisang and if he carries on like this he'll certainly be there in March.

A place in the Bafana squad will not be easy to come by, with Percy Tau recently returning to action, Zakhele Lepasa finding his scoring form and Downs starlet Cassius Mailula knocking at the door.

Broos is expected to announce his squad in the coming weeks.
