Radebe backing Senegal do well in World Cup

Bafana Bafana legend Lucas Radebe is backing African side Senegal to star at the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, and African champions Senegal are the five African teams who will represent the continent at the football showpiece.

Senegal have been pitted against hosts Qatar, Ecuador, and the Netherlands in Group A.

While Tunisia will meet defending champions France, Denmark and Australia in Group D.

'Rhu' who made the history of becoming the first captain to lead Bafana Bafana in a World Cup tournament at France '98, believes the Lions of Teranga will reach the knockout stages.

"It's tough for us. We have got African champs (Senegal) who I think carry our hopes.

"We've also got Tunisia, so I think our representation is not bad.

"Again, if you look at the group it's going to be hard. It's going to be tough for us, but we are hoping one of the teams will do well.

I am looking at Senegal, to be honest, to go even further to the knockout stages which I hope they will do," said Radebe.

Qatar and Ecuador are set to open the World Cup tournament for 2022 on Sunday at 18:00 (SA time).
