Bafana thrash Lesotho to boost World Cup hopes

Bafana Bafana strengthened the grip on top spot in Group C after defeating Lesotho 3-0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday night.

The much-talked about Teboho Mokoena started for Bafana while Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Sipho Mbule and Mohau Nkota featured too.

Bafana were thrown in disarray in the opening five minutes when Nyiko Mobbie suffered a knock and was rightfully removed for Zuko Mdunyelwa.

It did more good than bad for Hugo Broos men as Nkota got in at the back-post of the six-yard area and side-footed in a pin-point cross from Aubrey Modiba ten minutes apart.

Bafana were in firm control at this stage and could’ve added to their advantage through Oswin Appollis, Thalente Mbatha and Lyle Foster, but didn’t get in this time.

Mokoena almost doubled Bafana's lead in additional time through a teasing attempt at the far post from a telling delivery by Foster, but Moerane produced a stop.

Bafana continued to hold all the cards in the second half, with the home team having their backs against the wall and in need of inspiration.

Premier League-based Foster doubled Bafana's lead in the 63rd minute when he tapped in from the area following a spill by Moerane.

Foster made an impact again four minutes later where he played in Appollis to finish clinically from the shoulder of the defence.

In-form Orlando Pirates men Kamogelo Sebelebele came on for his debut and replaced Nkota, while Iqraam Rayners and Bathusi Aubaas replaced Foster and Mbule.

Lesotho looked for a consolation through Motebang Sera and Lebohang Lesako, but were denied as Bafana cruised to victory.

Confirmed line-ups:

Bafana Bafana: Williams, Mobbie,  Moloisane, Mbokazi, Modiba, Mbatha, Mokoena, Mbule, Nkota, Appollis, Foster

Subs: Goss, Ghaine, Ngezana, Le Roux, Kabini, Mofokeng, Shabalala, Mdunyelwa, Ndamane, Sebelele
