Terrence Mashego delighted after making Bafana debut

The 23-year-old defender transferred his domestic form to the international stage in a crucial 3-1 win over Ethiopia in a 2022 World Cup qualifier.

"Even against Ethiopia, it's not an easy team to play against because they have good players who can rotate the ball.

"But with the experience, I acquired during my time at TS Galaxy when we featured in the CAF Confederation Cup, I think it played a big role. As I was used to the situation of travelling and having played outside of the country.

"In the first 10 minutes of the game, I made a bad pass as I was still adjusting to the game, and immediately after I switched on and I said to myself, "let's move now".

"It's about time I own up and start playing my game because what I've noticed is that with international games, anything can happen at any time."

Mashego echoed Hugo Broos' sentiments that the new-look youthful Bafana squad are hungry to succeed.

"What I've noticed with the current team is that most players are hungry. And with hunger comes energy in the team."

Mashego says the plan in the remaining games is to take each game as it comes.

"We just have to work hard and make sure our effort pays off. One step at a time."
