Hugo Broos should be getting more credit than he is getting for reviving the fortunes of Bafana Bafana through the forest of challenges and criticism that he has had to walk past since his appointment.
The Belgian gaffer has recharged the hopes of the nation yet again after adopting a team left damaged by Molefi Ntseki.
Bafana are in progressive waters under Broos leading Group G of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifiers with their destiny in their own hands halfway through the qualifiers.
"Broos deserves more respect than he has been getting in South Africa," Alain Amougou tells snl24.com/kickoff.
Amougou is a retired Cameroon striker who played for Mamelodi Sundowns and is now back home.

"I know that in Africa and especially in South Africa there is a tendency of discrediting and doubting someone before he has actually started with the job just because he is coming from another country.
"I said it before that this guy is good at working with youngsters and will plan with whatever material he has at his disposal because he knows how to instil the fighting spirit in a team.
"South Africa has a good style of play which needs a coach like him to make it efficient considering that this is now a results-oriented business. Hugo Broos is good at building a team and will bring the results to South Africa.
"South Africa is lucky that they have Hugo Broos in charge at this moment in time because he is doing what the country needed.
"He has brought in younger players with the plus being that he is achieving results through a period when it would have been expected that there are plenty ups and downs. He needs to be given time and support. His philosophy must be supported instead of being doubted," says Amougou.
The evidence of Broos' success on the continent is implanted in how he led Cameroon to the 2017 AFCON title minus top stars Eric Maxime Choupo-Moting, Joel Matip, Andre Onana, Guy Roland Ndy, Allan Nyom, Maxime Poundje, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa and Ibrahim Amadou.
"We had him here in Cameroon and he won us the 2017 AFCON. Cameroon is a difficult country to please when it comes to football and my sense tells me that South Africa will be an easier space for him to work because there are resources and the environment friendly.
"He won us the Nations Cup against all odds, and I think everyone there must be behind him. He can take Bafana Bafana to the World Cup with a young team that no one expects to go anywhere. It is important for the coach to get support," adds Amougou.
Since Broos' departure in December 2017 just months after winning the AFCON, The Indomitable Lions have had little joy with the experimental appointments that they have made in Rigobert Song and Clarence Seedorf and are now under Toni Conceicao.
