Euro 2020: Spain boss Luis Enrique compares Pedri to Andres Iniesta

Spain manager Luis Enrique had some high praise for FC Barcelona teenager Pedri's performance against Italy on Tuesday, stating that it was better than anything Andres Iniesta had done.

The 18-year-old played a big part in a difficult 2020/21 season with FC Barcelona, and carried that form into the 2020 UEFA European Championship, where the young midfielder became indispensable for Spain.

Impressively, Pedri completed every one of the 55 passes he attempted in the first 90 minutes of their semi-final clash with Roberto Mancini's Italy on Tuesday night.

Following Spain's exit out from the Euros, La Furia Roja manager Enrique singled out the teenager's individual performances at the tournament for some high praise.

"Has anyone noticed what an 18-year-old boy named Pedri has done in the Euros?" he asked in a post-match interview with Mundo Deportivo. "Not even don Andres Iniesta has done it.

"What Pedri has done in these Euros I have never seen with an 18-year-old, not from anyone in the Euros, World Cups, Olympic Games, it's something away from all logic.

"I'm delighted that many more are aboard the Pedri bandwagon."

According to Transfermarkt, the teenager has played 66 matches for club and country in the 2020/21 season, including his appearances at Euro 2020.

Despite such a huge amount of playing time over the past year, Pedri is due to join up with Spain's Tokyo Olympics squad as they look to bring home a gold medal.
