Al Ahly appoint Ashraf Awad as new assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly have confirmed the appointment of former player Ashraf Awad as the club's new first-team assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane.

On Tuesday, Al Ahly's board of directors held their final meeting for the 2017-2021 term in Gezira, Egypt in which numerous club-related issues were tabled and resolved.

Among the items on the agenda were Al Ahly's budget, which amounted to EGP2.538 billion (R2.4 billion), the adoption of the final list of candidates for the upcoming presidential elections and a report on the club activities over the previous year.

During the meeting, the board also confirmed that Ashraf Awad had been appointed as the new first-team assistant coach to fill the void left by Cavin Johnson, who has returned to South Africa.

"The board approved on appointing Ashraf Awad, former Al Ahly player, as the first team's assistant coach," the club announced in an official statement on Tuesday.

Awad is expected to feature as Mosimane's right-hand-man when Al Ahly opens the 2021/22 campaign with a clash against Ismaily at the Borg Al Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Wednesday.
