UEFA has released a statement on the recent threats made by ISIS.

UEFA has now released an official statement on the terrorist threats aimed at this week's Champions League quarter-final fixtures.

European football's governing body has responded to the reported threats made by the Islamic State (ISIS), the organisation that is said to have published posters with the words "Kill them all" aimed at the four first-leg matches taking place this week.

It is believed the terrorist group is targeting all four first-leg venues, namely the two stadiums in Spain, and one each in England and France.

Despite the perceived threat, however, UEFA has now insisted that all games will go ahead as planned, albeit with increased security.

The organisation's statement reads: "UEFA is aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week’s UEFA Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues.

"All matches are planned to go ahead as scheduled with appropriate security arrangements in place."

Although it is unclear what form of attack could be expected, it is noted that it could potentially be deadly, with ISIS recently being responsible for a bombing in Moscow, Russia, which left more than 140 people dead and another 200 injured.

With the Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu and Atletico Madrid's Civitas Metropolitano being the two targets in Spain, the city's government has activated security measures ahead of Tuesday and Wednesday's matches in the region.

As such, more than 3 000 security personnel have reportedly been deployed.
