Furious Ronaldo sees red after elbow in cup loss!

A furious Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a red card for violent conduct during Al Nassr's cup loss to rivals Al Hilal on Monday night.

The veteran striker had a night to forget as his side were eliminated from the Saudi Super Cup following a 2-1 defeat to the Saudi Pro League's current leaders.

Ronaldo did not last the whole match, though, as he was given his marching orders late in the game after elbowing one of his opponents in the chest after the ball had gone out of play.

The incident started when Hilal defender Ali Al-Bulayhi slid the ball out of play for a throw-in, but when Ronaldo tried to get play restarted quickly, the centre-back tried to delay the quick throw, much to the frustration of Ronaldo.

The striker then proceeded to launch an elbow Al-Bulayhi's chest, culminating in Ronaldo receiving his second booking of the match after being cautioned for dissent earlier on.

The Portugal star was seen raging at the referee before walking off, sarcastically clapping his hands at the crowd in the process, with teammate Sadio Mane later scoring a consolation goal for Al Nassr.

His manager Luis Castro has since leapt to the former Real Madrid superstar's defence, saying, per the Daily Mirror: "It is difficult to talk about the incident in which Ronaldo received the red card, and we saw several clips earlier in the season in which Ronaldo was provoked, and after seeing some of the pictures, Ronaldo did not do anything that deserved to be sent off, and the opposing player acted. 

"The contact was small between Cristiano and the opponent's defender. He made a play.

"The video referee was supposed to call the match referee to watch the clip of the expulsion."
