Kekana explains why Downs will need Lorch 'very very soon'

Former club captain Hlompho Kekana has explained why he believes Mamelodi Sundowns will need new signing Thembinkosi Lorch to adapt as quickly as possible.

With just six months remaining on his contract with Pirates, the talismanic midfielder completed a surprise transfer Deadline Day move to rivals Sundowns Friday evening, ending an eight-year stay at the Sea Robbers.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Kekana, who was part of a Sundowns side that lifted to a CAF Champions triumph in 2016, believed the continental competition would be ideal for Lorch.

"We all know what a player like Lorch can bring to a team like Mamelodi Sundowns," Kekana said.

"It's just a matter of time and adaptation, maybe when he gets to a space where hopefully he adapts quickly because they will need him very very soon.

"Especially in the Champions League where they will need firepower going for a because they got no problem with dominating possession, dominating football spaces.

"It's just a matter of them going to kill football matches and I think in the Champions League what you need to do is score goals and goals will win you matches.

"So I'm sure will help in that regard."

Lorch has played eight matches of the CAF Champions League but did for feature in Pirates' short-lived Champions League journey at the start of the season in whichtThe Buccaneers were knocked out in the second preliminary round by Jwaneng Galaxy.

Meanwhile, Sundowns are looking to reclaim the continental title having list lifted the CAF Champions League in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane.

Frustratingly, the Brazilians were knocked out in the semi-final of last year's edition, crashing out on away goals rule after a 2-2 draw against Wydad.

Lorch is in line to make his first appearance as a Sundowns player when the Brazilians take on his former side Orlando Pirates on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld. Kick-off is at 15:30.
