Treble for Pirates? Tebza Moloi's challenge to Bucs

Club legend Teboho Moloi has issued a challenge to the current squad of Orlando Pirates players to lift the domestic treble.

The Sea Robbers last won the continental treble in the 2011/12 season and saw their ambitions to repeat the feat go up in smoke when they were knocked out of the Champions League by Jwaneng Galaxy in the second preliminary round.

Having already secured the MTN8 title, the Buccaneers still have the chance to complete a domestic treble, should they win the Nedbank Cup and the DStv Premiership title and Moloi is of the opinion that this could be the season.

"Orlando Pirates have a rich history, 1983 we won the Top 8, 1993, ten years later," Moloi said.

"We used to squeeze in a kombi and the chairman in to us said please, can you win the Top 8 and everything will change for Orlando Pirates.

"I'm glad to see that things have changed.

"The threes of Orlando Pirates, 83, 93, then 2023, 20 years later, the three has something to do with Pirates.

"You are going for your third year [with the MTN8 trophy], Ruud Krool, third year, won the treble, so you might bring us the treble, which I know you can. So I'm happy that MTN came and gave us something. Guys, you've won in twice, so against you need to bring it home.

Moloi was speaking at the Zodwa Khoza Foundation in Soweto where Pirates teamed up with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and MTN to hand over a donation of R100 000 worth of sports and IT equipment to the centre.

The event also gave kids and staff at the centre an up-close experience with some of their favourite Pirates stars including Melusi Buthelezi, Innocent Maela, Philip Ndlondlo and Katlego Otladisa.
