Chiefs legend: The players should also take the blame

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer believes it's high time Kaizer Chiefs players step up and shoulder some responsibility for the side's poor run of form.

Amakhosi are set to host bottom-of-the-table Cape Town Spurs at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening in what will be their eleventh league match of the season.

The Soweto Giants have endured a frustrating start to their campaign, collecting just three wins in ten league matches.

Consequently, head coach Molefi Ntseki was relieved of his duties after the ninth match, with head of development Cavin Johnson taking over the helm on an interim basis.

Prior to his role as head coach, Ntseki had replaced Arthur Zwane in the head coach's seat, who also endured a similar underwhelming campaign that saw the Chiefs finish fifth last season without any silverware.

Retired defender Kannemeyer, believes the blame cannot solely fall on the coaches' lap and the players have to take some responsibility.

"When a club is changing coaches as frequently as they (Chiefs) do. It points to a problem deeper than coaching," Kannemeyer told kickOff.

"At what point do the players also look at themselves and say we should be doing better? the hunger to win has to be there, the desire has to be. If the team is not doing well, the players should also take some blame.

"They (players) are in a tough situation because you can't develop a playing style when so many changes are happening around you. But I do think with the quality they have on the field, they should be doing better.
