'Technical tricks are beautiful to see but...' - Riveiro has his say on Kasi Flava

Head coach Jose Riveiro has delivered his verdict on showboating or 'Kasi flava' following his Orlando Pirates sides' dominant win over Djabal in the CAF Champions League.

The Soweto Giants progressed to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers after defeating Comoros side Djabal 3-0 at Orlando Stadium on Friday night, with a 4-0 aggregate victory.

On the night, goals came from Patrick Maswanganyi and Zakhele Lepasa who scored a brace.

With the Buccaneers 3-0 up, some Pirates players made time to entertain the home supporters with a few tricks or what's more commonly known in South African football as 'Kasi Flava'.

Riveiro said he takes no issue with the display on the condition that it be purposeful.

"It's something cultural in a way. I think everything in football is fine as long as it's useful to gain metres, eliminate players, to feed the next player in the next [attacking] line, and everything is okay," Riveiro said post-match.

"Bicycles, stepping on the ball, but we [need to have] purpose, if we do it only for the sake of doing, I don't know, but, it is what it is – what can I say, I don't want to give you a headline.

"The technical tricks in football are beautiful to see but again, with a purpose. You eliminate somebody? it's fine, you lose the ball, it's not fine, not at all – but we don't like to lose the ball and we don't want to lose time.

"The way we try to play, we manage to do it sometimes, sometimes not, but trust me, we want to go to the goals, we want to get to the goal as soon as possible, in control, not kicking the ball to the box. But we want to progress as quickly as possible. We like to play with speed."

Pirates turn their attention back to the DStv Premiership where they take on Cape Town City on Tuesday at Orlando Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
