Guardiola's 'threat' to Man City revealed?

A previous threat Pep Guardiola made to Manchester City has been revealed amid the club's charges from the Premier League for financial breaches.

In a statement released on Monday, the EPL said the Citizens were facing over 100 charges following a four-year investigation into their finances.

It was claimed that the breaches happened over nine seasons, from 2009 to 2018. In this period, City won the league three times. The matter will now be referred to an independent commission.

However, the Manchester club swiftly responded with their own statement claiming they have "irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position".

This latest financial scandal has brought Guardiola's previous comments to light.

In 2022, Guardiola had warned the City hierarchy that he would resign if he found out that they were lying to him about the finances of the club.

"If I defend the people and the club it's because I work with them," the Spanish manager said last year, per the Daily Mail.

"When I asked about suspicions or if our people have done something, then I say to them, 'tell me'.

"I said to them 'if you lie to me, the day after I'm not here, I will be out and you will not be my friend any more'.

"But I look at them and believe them 100 per cent from day one.

"So I defend the club because of that."

It remains a unknown as to whether Guardiola still holds the same viewpoint following the most recent allegations.

According to the Daily Mail, the commission could take years to reach a conclusion, with all eyes on Guardiola's next press conference.
