Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has lamented an unusual season after playing nine games in just over a month.
The PSL had to adjust the DStv Premiership fixtures to make way for the upcoming 2022 World Cup set to be played in Qatar later this year, consequently some games had to be moved up the schedule. Effectively forcing teams to play an increased number of games at the start of the season.
"This is a very difficult season," Mokwena said.
"Normally in a season, you have one game per week and then you gradually have training time and gradually build match condition. But this season, across the globe, you are finding that because of the world cup they've had to squeeze the games in."
"So before you've even accumulated good levels of match condition now every two or three days, at early parts of the season, you've to play.[Then] every two or three games you're under fatigued, you're asking for problems.
"So quad rotation then is necessary, but then squad rotation affects cohesion and chemistry."

While often criticised for keeping a large squad, Sundowns' massive recruitment strategy has served them well.
The Brazilians are sitting at the top of the premiership table and with two points to spare. Their new signings Abubeker Nassir and Marcello Allende have already scored five goals between them while Bongani Zungu is also approaching match fitness to add further options to the stacked squad.
The Brazilians' transfer business may not be also done as reports have linked Cape Town City man Terrence Mashego With a move to Chloorkop and Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil is awaiting registration.
