Let's take a closer look at what they had to say...

KO Comments

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has issued an apology to the Buccaneers faithful for their 1-0 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend.

The defeat was a record fifth in a row in the league for Pirates against Amakhosi and Sibisi mentioned that it wasn't easy to lose the captain, Innocent Maela that early in the game after he received a straight red for denying Christian Saile a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Here's how the readers replied to Sibisi's comments on the "Pirates defender issues apology following Soweto Derby defeat" story:

"I think even if it wasn't for an own goal, we didn't deserve to win to be quite frank. We don't have coaches judging by the selection of the team, we got more than 6 strikers, but we always play with one striker, you ask yourself then why are we signing these players then," says tm194441.

"Real scam. Before the game, it's always promises, but it never delivers. It reminds me of Micho's pregnant elephant. In fact, you always feel robbed of your hard-earned money at the end of the game," says Stil D 1 & only DSTV chmps.

Another reader had an interesting theory on Olisa Ndah's own goal:

"If the player is from Ghana or Nigeria, I smell a dead rat. Those two countries are famous for selling games to benefit themselves from betting companies. Pirates were favorites before the game, so it makes sense for the betting companies if they lost," says Dawanadserialwinner.

Read: Mhlongo hits back at criticism of Soweto derby standard

Pirates legend and former assistant coach Benson Mhlongo has hit back at fans who criticised the standard of football that was on display at the Soweto Derby.

Mhlongo said that the derby met his expectations because no one expected Chiefs to come out on top.

Here's how the readers responded on the "Mhlongo hits back at criticism of Soweto derby standard" story:

"Who rubbed Benson the wrong way? I think it's Jabu Pule or maybe it's Jabu Mahlangu," says Abuti.

"Benson watched the derby during the day, when Sundowns play Al Alhy during the night, I think he was not in the right frame of his mind (drunk) that's why he can't understand," ngwanamoshate.70.

"The derby is just a hyped-up boring game, the matches that provide true entertainment are Pirates vs Sundowns or Chiefs vs Sundowns," says Dominate-downs.

"Mr. Mhlongo is spot on. The past five official derbies have all produced a winner. Gone are the days of 0-0. It doesn't matter how the game has been won, whether by a deflection, own goal, penalty, or an individual dribbling brilliance from the centre line. They all count.

"Players are human after all, let's spare a thought for them. Fatigue takes its toll especially when playing in the boiling heat like they did on Saturday. The PSL should consider staging perhaps a 5 pm kick off especially in summer, this will go a long way in improving the quality of football on the day," says gsithole.

"Benson is saying something here. Look at how Maldini brothers were mentored, Cristiano Ronaldo is showing his son how to do it and so is Ronaldinho, Beckham etc. We have legends but are they hungry on improving and educating themselves to be part of football arena on another level?

"Some are taxi drivers, owners, cleaners, etc. and got nothing to do with football. Did they ever asked Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns to help them with anything to further their football knowledge? I think teams can assist if ex-players can humble themselves and knock on some of the team's doors," says skepmaswikaneng.
