Al Ahli Saudi FC’s promotion ambitions got a further lift 24 hours before they took to the field with two of the three teams below suffering defeat.
Fourth placed Al Riyadh and Al Arabi (fifth position) were both downed by teams way below them on Tuesday.

Al Riyadh were shocked home by Al Qadisiya while Al Arabi also lost home to Ohod on a day of shocks which benefitted Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli.
Third placed Al Akhdoud had to sweat away at bottom club Al Shoalah to record a 2-1 win which keeps them within sight of Al Ahli and leaders Al Hazm.
The benefit for Mosimane’s team is that they will now extend their promotion cushion if they overcome Jeddah Club on Wednesday evening at home.
With the remaining games approaching single figures the promotion chase is heading towards calculations of how many points Mosimane’s team will now need to seal their return to then Saudi Pro League.
The secondary target is winning the Saudi first division which will hand Jingles his first trophy and keep his record of winning silverware at every club he has coached intact from SuperSport United to Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.
Wednesday’s opponents – Jeddah – were the first that Mosimane faced in October after his appointment in a game that finished 1-1.
Since then, Mosimane has guided Al Ahli to 11 wins, five draws and one defeat moving the popular club from seventh position to the comforts of second place.
Al Ahli have 46 points and are favourites to finish in the top four along with Al Hazm and Al Faisaly who were all relegated from the Pro League last season.
While priority is promotion there is also the Saudi first division title which carries prizemoney in the region of R25 million.
